These sugarplum squares will melt in your mouth. Try this recipe for Christmas or Thanksgiving, and make those sweet dreams come true!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1/3 cup softened margarine or butter
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tbsp grated orange peel
  • 2 tablespoons orange juice
  • 1/2 cup raisins
  • 3/4 cup chopped walnuts
  • 1 cup flaked or shredded coconut
  • Confectioner's sugar

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease an 8-inch or a 9-inch square pan.
  2. In a medium bowl, beat together flour, 1/4 cup granulated sugar, and butter until well blended.
  3. Press mixture evenly into bottom of greased baking pan; bake 15 minutes, or until very lightly browned.
  4. Beat together eggs, remaining 1 cup sugar, 2 tablespoons flour, baking powder, and salt until smooth. Stir in orange peel, orange juice, raisins, walnuts, and coconut.
  5. Pour mixture over hot baked layer, spreading evenly. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes, or until lightly browned. Cool in pan.
  6. Cut cooled cookies into small squares; sift confectioner's sugar over top.
