Soft Custard is a yummy recipe that is great to have in you cooking toolbox. It is great for a variety of cakes, pies, pastries, and even in bread. Be adventurous with this one...the results are delicious.

Ingredients

  • 3 large eggs, slightly beaten
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • dash of salt
  • 2 1/2 cups milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

Directions

  1. In a saucepan, whip eggs, sugar, and salt.
  2. Slowly stir in milk while warming over medium heat.
  3. Cook for 10-15 minutes. Stir continuously as it thickens. It's ready when the mixture coats a metal spoon when dipped into it.
  4. Remove from heat and add vanilla.
  5. Chill the custard by placing the pan in cold water.
  6. When cool, cover and chill at least 2 hours but no more than 24 hours.
