Roasted Turkey with Smoked Paprika

Looking for something different this Thanksgiving. Smoked paprika turns a tired turkey into a delicious, gourmet meal, certain to please the whole family.

Tip: Make sure you baste the turkey occassionally with the pan juices. Then use the juice to make a gravy. 

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons Italian seasoning
  • 2 tablespoons sea salt
  • 1 tablespoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon smoked paprika
  • 2 teaspoons garlic powder
  • 2 teaspoons ground mustard
  • 1 whole turkey, 12-14 pounds, thawed
  • 2 stalks of celery
  • 1 onion
  • 1 orange
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

Directions

  1. Place turkey, breast-side up, in a roasting pan on rack.
  2. Combine Italian seasoning, salt, pepper, paprika, garlic, and mustard. Sprinkle 1 tablespoon of seasonings inside the turkey.
  3. Roughly chop celery. Quarter onion and orange. Stuff into turkey along with bay leaves.
  4. Rub olive oil on the outside of the turkey and spread remaining season all over.
  5. Pour 1/2 cup of water into the bottom of the pan and cover with foil.
  6. Cook at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 1 hour, remove foil, and continue to cook 2-2 1/2 hours. Turkey should reach an internal temperature of 165 degrees Fahrenheit.
