Ingredients

  • 3 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1-inch stick cinnamon
  • 4 cardamom pods
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 1 small onion, peeled and chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, peeled and finely chopped
  • 2 teaspoons peeled, finely grated gresh ginger
  • 1 1/4 pounds ground chicken or turkey
  • 6-7 ounces fresh or frozen peas, lightly cooked
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground turmeric
  • 1/2 teaspoon garam masala
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1/2-3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
  • black pepper

Directions

  1. Heat oil in a large skillet.
  2. Cook cinnamon, cardamom, and bay leaves for a few seconds.
  3. Add onion and cook until they start to brown.
  4. Stir in garlic and ginger, cooking for 30 seconds between additions.
  5. Add chicken and cook, breaking up lumps, until meat is no longer pink.
  6. Stir in the rest of the ingredients. Cook 2-3 minutes. Serve.
