This recipe takes a classic children's favorite and spices it up. While still kid-friendly, these Double-Decker Grilled Cheese Sandwiches are sophisticated enough for even the most esteemed adults.
Be adventurous with your choice of bread and cheese. There are a lot of great varieties, so step out of the box for this great sandwich.
Tip: Tomato slices are great on grilled cheese as well.
Ingredients
- 3 tablespoons butter, softened
- 8 slices of bread
- 4 slices of Cheddar cheese
- 4 slices Monterey jack or mozzarella cheese
Directions
- Smear butter on one side of each slice of bread.
- Cook 4 slices of bread, butter side down, in a hot skillet or griddle.
- Layer each slice with both types of cheese and top with the remaining slices of bread (butter side up).
- Cook for about 2 minutes on each side or until browned and cheese has melted.
