Apple Butter

Delicious apple butter spread is perfect compliment to any breakfast bread or pastry.  You will also need jars with lids and bands to store apple butter in and a large pot to boil the jars in order to seal them.


  • 3 pounds sliced apples
  • 1 quart cider or apple juice
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon cloves


  1. In large sauce pan, bring apples and juice to a boil over medium-high heat. Cover and simmer until tender.
  2. Drain liquid from apples and set aside.
  3. Press the apples through sieve then return them to the liquid; throw away peels.
  4. Return sauce pan to stove over medium heat.
  5. Add sugar, cinnamon, and cloves cooking for 5 minutes.
  6. Turn heat to low and cook until thick.
  7. Spoon butter into hot jars; cover with lids and bands then boil jars in large pot for 5 minutes to seal.
