2 cups all-purpose flour
2-1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
3 tsp white sugar
2 tsp brown sugar
1/3 cup walnuts, chopped finely
3/4 tsp ground cinnamon
1/8 tsp nutmeg
1/4 cup butter or margarine (cold)
2 eggs
1/3 cup milk or cream
Topping mixture:
1 tablespoon brown sugar
1 tablespoon white sugar
1/2 teaspoon cinnamonDirections:
In a bowl, combine flour, sugars, baking powder, salt, cinnamon and walnuts. Cut in the butter until the mixture looks like coarse crumbs. Combine the eggs and milk, and then fold it into the dry ingredients just until moistened. Turn the dough onto a floured surface and pat gently into a 8 inch circle (about 3/4 of an inch thick).
Next, sprinkle the topping mixture evenly over the dough circle, then cut the dough into eight pie-shaped wedges. Separate the wedges and place them onto a lightly greased baking sheet. Preheat oven. Before baking, let the uncooked scones rest 10 minutes.
Bake at 450 degrees for 13-17 minutes, or until golden brown.
