Dutch Family Cake

This cake is moist enough that you don't need frosting. Just sift a little powdered sugar over to top.

Ingredients:
1/2 c shortening
2 squares bittersweet chocolate
1 c sugar
2 eggs
1 c applesauce
1 t vanilla
1/2 c pecans
1 c flour
1/2 t baking powder
1/4 t baking soda
1/4 t salt

Directions:
Melt and blend shortening and chocolate (I do it in a measuring cup in the microwave). Cool.

Beat egss, add sugar, applesauce, vanilla, pecans, and chocolate mixture. Sift dry ingredients together (I just stir them together a little). Add to wet mixture and stir to mix. Pour in greased and floured 8" square pan.

Bake 30-40 minutes at 350 F. When cool, dust with powdered sugar or frost.
