Pumpkin turkey chili recipe
We know pumpkin is used in a variety of sweet dishes, from pies and cakes to cookies. But pumpkin's semi-sweet flavor can be a nice complement to savory and spicy dishes, too.

It may seem strange to add pumpkin to your favorite savory dishes, but it adds a depth and balance unlike anything else. This recipe, featuring pumpkin purée alongside several classic chili ingredients, will have your family coming back for seconds.
Pumpkin turkey chili recipe
Serves 2 - 4
Ingredients:
- 1/2 medium yellow onion, roughly chopped
- 1 medium green bell pepper, roughly chopped
- 1 to 2 cloves garlic, pressed
- 1 pound ground turkey
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 (15 ounce) can pumpkin purée (un-spiced)
- 1 (14.5 ounce) can diced tomatoes, undrained
- 1 cup chicken stock, warmed in the microwave
- 10 drops liquid smoke
- 1-1/2 tablespoons chili powder
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- Salt and pepper to taste
Directions:
- Spray a large pot with cooking spray and over medium heat, sauté the onions, bell peppers and garlic until the peppers are softened and the onions become translucent.
- Increase the heat to medium-high and add the ground turkey and Worcestershire sauce. Cook until the turkey is browned. Do not drain.
- Add the chicken stock, pumpkin purée, tomatoes, chili powder, liquid smoke and pepper and simmer for about 5 minutes (longer for thicker chili).
- Garnish with the cheddar or mixed cheese, fresh bell pepper slices and sour cream.
